Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Oehringen 1760-PPW 1/2 thaler
The first specimen was lot 3952 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,112 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HOHENLOHE, HOHENLOHE-NEUENSTEIN-ÖHRINGEN, GRAFSCHAFT. Johann Friedrich der Jüngere, 1708-1765. 1/2 Konv.-Taler 1760, Nürnberg. Vorzüglich. (Germany, county of Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Oehringen, John Frederick the Younger, 1708-65, half convention thaler of 1760, Nuremberg mint. Extremely fine.)"
The second specimen was lot 1305 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,451 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Öhringen, Grafschaft, Johann Friedrich (der Jüngere), 1708-1765. 1/2 Konventionstaler 1760, Nürnberg. Münzmeister Johann Martin Förster. Stempelschneider Peter Paul Werner. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Fast FDC. Feine Patina. (Germany, county of Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Öhringen, John Frederick the Younger, 1708-65, half thaler of 1760, Nuremberg mint. Rare in this condition, About Mint State, Nicely toned.)"
This insignificant county almost never issued coins but in 1760, the count minted a 20 kreuzer, a quarter thaler, half thaler (shown here), thaler (Dav-2351) and ducat (Fr-1338), of which the half thaler is the least rare.
