from the Mountain Groan Collection

This specimen is a one-year type struck 1941 only by the Vichy régime. It was the first twenty cent piece struck since 1889. Later in 1941, the "VINGT" was changed to the figure "20" and struck in that form 1941-44. In 1939, bread was 3.10 francs/kg; in 1945, 6.67 francs/kg; in 1950, 35.4 francs/kg[1]. This coin is very common in circulated condition but hard to find choice. The issue of twenty centimes ceased in 1946, not to resume until 1962 with the new franc.

Recorded mintage: 54,044,000[1].

Specification: 3.5 g, zinc, 24 mm diameter, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: F.152/2, KM 899.
