France 1943 20 centimes

This specimen was lot 22318 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Lightweight 20 Centimes (2.8 gms.), 1943. Paris Mint. PCGS MS-64 Secure Holder. Sharply struck, toned." This type, closely related to the heavy 20 centimes issued by Vichy 1941-43, is common in circulated condition. The composition was switched to iron in 1944 but the Normandy invasion ended the Vichy regime soon after. This type was demonetized in 1947.
