Madras AH 1172(6) 1/2 rupee KM-414
This specimen was lot 3053 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $66. The catalog description[1] noted, "MADRAS PRESIDENCY: AR ½ rupee, AH1172 year 6, in the name of Alamgir II, but struck at Madras 1817-1835, small date variety, EF-AU." This issue is not listed in the 18th century SCWC but the the 19th century SCWC. Altho dated in the eighteenth century, it was almost certainly made in the nineteenth century by the English on behalf of the (long dead) Mughal emperor. It was struck with frozen dates. The English also made quarter rupees (KM 400, 409, 413, 425, 434), double rupees (KM 404.1, 404.2) and rupees (KM 403, 410, 415.2, 415.1, 427, 436), all common except the double rupee. Some were probably milled.
