Malacca (1557-78)-BA dinheiro
This specimen was lot 42177 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Portuguese India. Malaca. Dinheiro, ND (1557-78)-BA. Sebastian I. NGC EF-45." In 1511, the Portuguese seized the port of Malacca from its ruler, Mahmud Shah, and held it against Javanese and Sumatran attacks. Finally, it fell to the Dutch in 1641. Tin, being abundant in Malaya, was used to make the coins.
