Stephen Album sale 38, lot 3509

This specimen was lot 3509 in Stephen Album sale 38 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "PAPAL STATES: Pius IX, 1846-1878, AE baiocco, 1846-IR, lovely example with traces of red luster, choice About Unc." This type was struck at Bologna and Rome 1846-48. Despite the trifling mintage, this is considered a common date.

Recorded mintage: 7,500.

Specification: 10 g, bronze, 30 mm diameter, plain edge.
