This specimen was lot 31242 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $282. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold Peso 1864-So, XF45 NGC. The final year of this short-lived type. A perfect representative for the grade, this coin has no distracting marks; blushes of attractive apricot tone appear on both sides." This type was struck 1860-64 and, like the silver peso of 1853-62, is much scarcer than the SCWC values indicate.

Recorded mintage: 29,000.

Catalog reference: KM 133.

Specification: 1.52 g, 0.900 fine gold, .044 troy oz AGW, 14 mm diameter.
