Heritage sale 3029, lot 30996
Sweden 1778 1-6 riksdaler rev H3029-30996.jpg

This specimen was lot 30996 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $317.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Gustaf III 1/6 Riksdaler 1778-OL, MS63 NGC. Nicely toned with bold details and no adjustment marks, and just a tiny spot on the reverse." This denomination was introduced in 1776 to replace the 16 öre (KM 513). It must have been a success, as this type was struck 1778-90 in large numbers and is common today.

Recorded mintage: 978,000.

Specification: 6.19 g, .691 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 524.
