This is one of the less common issues of the nineties. It commemorates the visit of Pope John Paul II to the Philippines, the only Catholic country in Asia. Like many countries, many of the inhabitants are only nominally Catholic but everyone was happy to throw a big party for a distinguished visitor. A smaller silver 100 piso and a gold 5000 piso were also issued for the visit.
Recorded mintage: 1,000.
Specification: 15.58 g, 0.999 fine silver, .499 troy oz AGW.
Catalog reference: KM 265.
