Sweden 1864-ST riksdaler riksmynt

from the Stack's Bowers February 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 11442

This specimen was lot 11442 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €145 (about US$151). The catalog description^[1] noted, "SWEDEN. Riksdaler Riksmynt, 1864 - ST. Stockholm Mint. Karl XV. NGC AU Details--Cleaned. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." In 1855, the skilling was dropped and 100 öre = 4 riksdaler riksmynt = one riksdaler specie (the riksdaler specie remained unchanged). This type of 1860-67 and 1871 is somewhat common. In 1873, the riksdaler specie was dropped and 100 öre = 1 krona (the krona, at 7.5 g, 0.800 fine silver, was slightly smaller than the old riksdaler riksmynt).

Recorded mintage: 85,000, a better date.

Specification: 8.50 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen 8.46 g.
