This specimen was lot 76688 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "DANISH WEST INDIES. 12 Skilling, 1757. Copenhagen Mint. Frederik V. PCGS VF-35." Few of the European powers bothered to strike coinage for their colonies in the Caribbean; the economic theory of the day suggested that colonies should be a source of bullion, not a drain. This design was used 1748, 1757 (shown here) and 1763-65 along with a 6 skilling and 24 skilling.
Recorded mintage: 81,000.
Specification: 3.25 g, 0.500 fine silver, 24 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-6.2.
