This specimen was lot 76687 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "DANISH WEST INDIES. 12 Skilling, 1748. Copenhagen Mint. Frederik V. PCGS VF-30." Few of the European powers bothered to strike coinage for their colonies in the Caribbean; the economic theory of the day suggested that colonies should be a source of bullion, not a drain. Another, more common, twelve skilling exists for 1748, featuring the royal monogram (KM 6.1).
Recorded mintage: 51,000 (including KM 6.1).
Specification: 3.25 g, 0.500 fine silver, 24 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-5.
