from the Stack's Bowers February 2025 Collectors Choice, lot 10054

This specimen was lot 10054 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €528 (about US$550). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Skilling, 1542. Christian III. NGC AU-58. Marvelous specimen of this, the first Danish coin which gives the number of the king. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." At this time one gulden was 48 skilling; the specie daler would appear until later. This type was struck 1542-68; this date is slightly heavier than the later ones.
