France 1834T franc rev DSLR.jpg

This issue, from the Nantes mint, is a better date of a type struck 1832-48. This design, by Domard, replaced the Tiolier bust type struck 1831 only. It was demonetized in 1869. A complete set of this type comprises 118 date and mintmark combinations, many very rare. The entire production run, 1832-48, totaled about 18.1 million pieces. The production of French five franc pieces in the same period was 289 million. This date is priced about five times the commonest dates (1845B, 1846A or 1847A). The Nantes mint was closed in 1820, reopened in 1826 and closed for good in 1835.

Specification: 23 mm diameter, 5 grams, 0.900 fine silver, reeded edge. Designed by Joseph François Domard, 1792-1858.

Recorded Mintage: 102,000[2], 101,513[1].

Catalog reference: F.210/38, KM 748.12.
