Venice (1752)-GAC scudo Dav-1548
This specimen was lot 21301 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Venice. Scudo, (1752)-GAC. Francesco Loredano (1752-62). NGC MS-64. Gleaming in the field with compliments of pale champagne tone on both sides and bold detail on the designs despite some evidence of significant rotation between strikes. One of two certified at this top grade by NGC. Ex: Eugenio Fornoni Verona, February 2003." The mintmaster's initials date this coin to 1752. The SCWC notes that the scudo varied between 31.83 g and 30.66 g in the eighteenth century. It had a face value of seven lire. A twelve zecchini coin was struck in gold using these dies (Fr-1403c).
