from the Stack's Bowers 2019 ANA sale, lot 22597
Br-Luneburg SB819-22597r.jpg

This specimen was lot 22597 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2019), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg. Taler, 1697. Ernst August. PCGS AU-50 Gold Shield. Perfect for the grade with bold and evenly detailed designs, very few marks and wonderful rich gray patina that blankets both sides. Ex: Coin Galleries (10/2010) Lot #491." We note the voided escutcheon in the center. It was probably intended for the arms of Britain, which the dukes would not obtain until the death of queen Anne in 1714.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM 394.2; Dav-6628.
