Stack's Bowers 2014 ANA sale, lot 614

This specimen was lot 624 in Stack's Bowers ANA auction (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $1,057.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 20 Franc, 1808-A. NGC MS-65. Brilliant and attractive. Exceptionally choice." This is the common date of the type but choice specimens are surprisingly scarce.

Recorded mintage: 1,448,569.

Specification: 6.45 g, 0.900 fine gold, 21 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE, designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier.
