Great Britain 1869 penny KM-727
This specimen was part of lot 74074 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), which sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Maundy Set (4 Pieces), 1869. London Mint. Victoria. All PCGS Certified. 1) 4 Pence. PCGS PROOFLIKE-66. 2) 3 Pence. PCGS PROOFLIKE-66. 3) 2 Pence. PCGS PROOFLIKE-65. 4) Penny. PCGS PROOFLIKE-67+. This stunning members of the Maundy set all display profound toning of cobalt, violet, and mauve. About as lovely as these popular sets come." This type, KM 727, was struck 1838-87 for Maundy sets only tho this date is common.
