Jean Elsen sale 158, lot 1750

This specimen was lot 1750 in Jean Elsen sale 158 (Brussels, March 2024), where it sold for €340 (about US$442 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Napoléon Ier (1804-1814), AR demi-franc, 1806 L, Bayonne. Rare. presque Très Beau. (empire of France, Napoleon I, 1804-14, silver half franc of 1806, Bayonne mint. Rare, about Very Fine.)"

This type was struck 1806-07 with eleven different date-mintmark combinations, of which the 1806-A is the only one at all common.

Reported Mintage: 41,603.

Specification: 2.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, 18 mm diameter, decorated edge, designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier
