Künker sale 294, lot 3249

This specimen was lot 3249 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €160 (about US$217 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEDEN, KÖNIGREICH, Oskar II. 1872-1907. 5 Kronen 1886, Stockholm. 2,02 g Feingold. GOLD. Vorzüglich. (kingdom of Sweden, Oscar II, 1872-1907, five crowns of 1886, Stockholm mint. Extremely fine.)"

This type was struck in limited numbers 1881-86, 1894 and 1899 but the release of the hoard of the Bank of Sweden in the late nineties made this type common in all grades.

Recorded mintage: 42,000, including the 1886/3 overdate.

Specification: 2.24 g, 0.900 fine gold.

Catalog reference: Ahlström 37; Fr-95; Schl. 143, KM 756.
