Sweden 1886-EB 20 kronor
This specimen was lot 3246 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,146 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEDEN, KÖNIGREICH, Oskar II. 1872-1907. 20 Kronen 1886, Stockholm. 8,06 g Feingold. GOLD. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Polierte Platte. (kingdom of Sweden, Oscar II, 1872-1907, twenty kronen of 1886, Stockholm mint. Scarce in this quality, proof.)"
In 1873, the riksdaler species was dropped and 100 öre = 1 krona (the krona, at 7.5 g, 0.800 fine silver, was slightly smaller than the old riksdaler riksmynt). The system adopted in 1873 is still in use today, the Swedes having recently declined to adopt the euro. This type was struck in limited numbers 1877-99 but the release of the hoard of the Bank of Sweden in the late nineties made this type common in all grades.
Recorded mintage: 173,000.
Specification: 8.96 g, 0.900 fine gold, .259 troy oz AGW.
