This specimen was lot 31011 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $470. The catalog description[1] noted, "Oscar I 2 Riksdaler 1857-ST, AU55 NGC. Lightly toned with strong design features. A very scarce one-year type equal to 1/2 Riksdaler Specie. Ex: 'Colonel' E.H.R. Green; Green Estate' Partnership of Eric P Newman/B.G. Johnson." In 1855, the coinage was reformed once again. The skilling and fractional riksdalers were dropped for a quasidecimal system of 100 öre = one riksdaler riksmynt and four riksdaler riksmynt = one riksdaler specie. The two riksdaler is the half dollar equivalent. The denomination was struck 1857 (shown here), 1862-64 and 1871; all dates are scarce to rare.

Recorded mintage: 288,000.

Specification: 17 g, 0.750 fine silver, 31.8 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 694.
