The first specimen was lot 26066 in Heritage sale 3032 (Chicago, April 2014), where it sold for $3,525. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carl XV Proof Riksdaler Riksmynt 1860-ST, PR66 NGC. A stunning presentation, worthy of the finest cabinet, with an enchanting blend of green and gold atop the surfaces and pronounced cameo contrast between the central devices and fields. An extremely rare issue in Proof format and comparable in presentation and quality to an 1865-dated example of the same type that we recently sold for $4,700 as a part of the Eric P. Newman Collection." The second specimen was lot 24975 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[2] noted, "SWEDEN. Riksdaler, 1860-ST. NGC MS-61. WINGS Approved. Difficult type to locate in Mint state. Sharply struck, toned with underlying luster." In 1855, the coinage was reformed once again. The skilling and fractional riksdalers were dropped for a quasidecimal system of 100 öre = one riksdaler riksmynt and four riksdaler riksmynt = one riksdaler specie. The riksdaler is the quarter dollar equivalent. It was struck 1857, 1860-67 and 1871; all dates are scarce to rare.

Recorded mintage: 125,000.

Specification: 8.5 g, 0.750 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 708.
