Jean Elsen sale 133, lot 1361

This specimen was lot 1361 in Jean Elsen sale 133 (Brussels, June 2017), where it sold for €80 (about US$106 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SUEDE, Adolf Fredrik (1751-1771), AR 4 öre silvermynt (1/24 riksdaler), 1771. D/ Monogramme couronné. R/ Ecu rond et couronné. Très Beau. (kingdom of Sweden, Adolf Frederick, 1751-71, silver four ore or 1/24 riksdaler. Obverse: crowned monogram, reverse: crowned round arms. Very fine.)"

This type is listed for 1771 only but is scarce, not rare. It was part of a short lived experiment which also featured sixteen öre (KM 513) and eight öre (KM 507). Subsequent issues (KM 522) were denominated 1/24 riksdaler.

Recorded mintage: 21,000.
