CNG Lissner sale, lot 348

This specimen was lot 348 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $4,235. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE, Premier Empire. Napoléon I. 1804-1814. AR 2 Franc. Paris mint; différents: signature/rooster. Pierre-Joseph Tiolier, engraver general. Ch.-Pierre de l’Espine, director. Dated 1806 A. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 63. Choice lustrous toned specimen with great color. Only coin of this date and type ever graded. Rare in this grade. Purchased from Superior Stamp & Coin." This type was struck 1806-07 with seventeen different date-mintmark combinations, of which the 1806-A is the only one at all common.

Recorded mintage: 170,321 (most common date).

Specification: 10 g, 0.900 fine silver, 27 mm diameter, edge lettered * DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE *, designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier. This specimen is Ø27 mm, 10.01 g, 6h axis.
