Netherlands 1997 ducat

Jean Elsen sale 150, lot 1633

This specimen was lot 1633 in Jean Elsen sale 150 (Brussels, March 2022), where it sold for €200 (about US$265 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"NEDERLAND, Koninkrijk, Beatrix (1980-2014), AV dukaat, 1997. Gepolijste Stempel. (kingdom of the Netherlands, Beatrix, 1980-2014, gold ducat of 1997, Proof.)"

The Netherlands was the last country to strike ducats on a regular basis. This modernized type was struck 1986-2015 and sold to bullion investors. Similar double ducats exist.

Recorded mintage: 11,500.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, 21 mm diameter, reeded edge.
