This specimen was part of lot 1204 in Goldberg's NY International sale 58 (New York, January 2023), which sold for $4,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain. Elizabeth II (1952-2022). Gold Proof Sovereign Four-Coin Collection, 1990. Half-Sovereign, Sovereign, 2 Pound and 5 Pound, Total 1.94 ounces. Royal Mint. In original red case of issue, Certificate of Authenticity #0228. Lot of 4 Coins. Choice Gem Proof." This bust was used 1985, 1987-93 and 1999. This denomination was a revival of the old two pounds struck in Victorian and Edwardian times. It was accompanied by a gold half sovereign, sovereign and five pounds, also not intended to circulate.
