This coin was a circulating commemorative issued to honor Madrid as a European culture capital. The reverse depicts the fountain of Cibeles (Cybele) in the center of that city. A similar design was used in 1990 (KM 855).

Recorded mintage: 11,404,000.

Specification: copper-nickel, 25.5 mm diameter.
