This type, issued from 1997-98, was replaced by an aluminum five centimos issued starting 2007. In 1991, the currency was reformed, one nuevo sol = one million intis. Surprisingly enough, the nuevo sol has remained stable against the dollar (US$1 = S/. 2.77, October 2013, US$1 = S/. 3.63, January 2021).

Recorded mintage: 20,000,000.

Specification: 2.78 g, brass, 17.92 diameter.
