This specimen was part of lot 31281 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), which sold for $6,300. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Yugoslavia: Socialist Republic 6-Piece Uncertified gold & silver "25th Anniversary" Proof Set 1968, 1) 20 Dinara; 2) 50 Dinara, KM 50; 3) gold 100 Dinara, KM 51; 4) gold 200 Dinara, KM52; 5) gold 500 Dinara, KM 53; 6) gold 1000 Dinara, KM 54; KM-PS1. A gratifying anniversary set including nicely toned silver issues, each coin included displaying a sharp cameo contrast. Sold with original case of issue and COA #1798. Total AGW approx. 4.073 oz." Yugoslavia was originally formed out of the wreckage of the Austro-Hungarian Empire after World War One. The king of Serbia was given the throne and he and his successors ruled uneasily until the Nazi invasion of 1941. Resistance against the Germans spawned numerous partisan guerilla groups, of which the most successful was the Communist Serbs led by Tito, who went on to head the country after the war. His stature may be measured by the fact that he was one of the few to stand up to Stalin in the fifties. Yugoslavia collapsed into a bloody civil war after the fall of Communism. This NCLT was part of a series which included KM 49 (silver 20 dinara, shown here), KM 50 (50 dinara, silver), KM 51 (gold 100 dinara), KM 52 (gold 200 dinara), KM 53 (gold 500 dinara) and KM 54 (gold 1000 dinara).
