This type was struck for circulation in Germany 1873-76, 1888-89 at Berlin (mintmark A), Frankfurt (C), Munich (D, shown here), Dresden (E), Stuttgart (F), Karlsruhe (G), Darmstadt (H) and Hamburg (J). The subsequent type of 1890-1916 (KM 12) had a different eagle. This is a common date. In 1916, the denomination was converted to iron to save nickel for the war effort.

Recorded mintage: 16,787,000.

Specification: 4 g, copper-nickel, 21 mm diameter.
