Künker sale 353, lot 3906

This specimen was lot 3906 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €220 (about US$306 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm II. 1786-1797. 1/3 Reichstaler preuß. 1788, B, Breslau. Prachtexemplar. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William II, 1786-97, one third thaler of 1788, Breslau mint. Choice example, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

The 1/12 thaler was retired in 1772 and the 1/6 thaler was retired in 1778 but this denomination carried on to the end of the century. One third thaler was half a gulden. This type was struck 1786-98 at Berlin, Breslau and Konigsberg.
