Sincona sale 5, lot 53

This specimen was lot 53 in Sincona sale 5 (Zurich, May 2012), where it sold for 28,000 CHF (about US$34,454 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Zürich 4 Dukaten 1641. Av. Von zwei Löwen flankiertes, bekränztes Stadtwappen. Darunter die geteilte Jahreszahl. Rv. Auffliegender, nimbierter Doppeladler in einem Perlkreis. Sehr selten und von äusserst attraktiver Erhaltung. Gutes vorzüglich. (Switzerland, canton of Zurich, four ducats of 1641. Obverse: two lions support city arms; reverse: nimbate double-headed eagle in circle of pearls. Very rare, good extremely fine.)"

Another extremely rare issue from Zurich.

Specification: 14 g, 0.986 fine gold, .444 troy oz AGW; this specimen is 13,86 g.
