Sardinia 1850(g) P 2 lire
This specimen was lot 1399 in Sincona sale 90 (Zurich, May 2024), where it sold for 475 CHF (about US$628 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIEN Savoyen / Sardinien, Vittorio Emanuele II. 1849-1861. 2 Lire 1850, Genova. Von grösster Seltenheit. Schön. Überarbeitet. (Italy, kingdom of Sardinia, Victor Emanuel II, 1849-61, two lire of 1850, Genoa mint. Of the highest rarity, Fine, Tooled.)"
This type was struck at Turni 1850-56 and 1860 and at Genoa 1850 and 1854. The Turin issue (eagle head mintmark) is scarce and the Genoa issue (anchor mintmark, shown here) is very rare.
