Sincona sale 78, lot 417

This specimen was lot 417 in Sincona sale 78 (Zurich, October 2022), where it sold for 3,000 CHF (about US$3,596 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA | Russian Empire and Federation | Alexander I. 1801-1825, 2 Kopecks 1805, Suzun Mint, KM. Very rare. 50 roubles according to Petrov. 25 roubles according to Ilyin. Good extremely fine. Extraordinary condition. Slightly cleaned." This type was struck 1804-07 at Suzun mint and is very scarce. Novodels exist. A similar coin was struck at Ekaterinburg but not in 1805.
