Sincona sale 81, lot 6037

This specimen was lot 6037 in Sincona sale 81 (Zurich, October 2022), where it sold for 4,000 CHF (about US$4,794 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND | Appenzell Innerrhoden, Groschen 1739, Appenzell. Extremely rare. Very fine." This obscure one year type has a very high catalog value, seemingly justified by the price realized here. This specimen was offered again as lot 4020 in Sincona sale 95 (Zurich, October 2024), where it sold for 3,000 CHF (about US$4,158 including buyer's fees).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: billon; this specimen 1.22 g.

Catalog reference: KM 40, D.T. 793, HMZ 2-41d.
