Jean Elsen sale 149, lot 2026

This specimen was lot 2026 in Jean Elsen sale 149 (Brussels, December 2021), where it sold for €180 (about US$244 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSIE, Elisabeth (1741-1761), AR polupoltinnik, 1751MMΔ, Moscou. D/ B. de la tsarine à d. R/ Aigle impériale couronnée. Très Beau. (empire of Russia, Elizabeth, 1741-61, silver polupoltinnik of 1751, Moscow mint. Obverse: bust of the empress to right; reverse: crowned imperial eagle. Very Fine.)"

During Elizabeth's reign, quarter rubles were minted only at Moscow. This type of 1743-51 is noted as fairly common. With modifications (KM C17a and C17b), it was struck until 1758.

Recorded mintage: 868,000 including a few KM-C17a.

Specification: 6.05 g, .802 fine silver, this specimen 6,73 g.
