This specimen was lot 2261 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "SAFAVID: Isma'il I, 1501-1524, AR 1/4 shahi, Herat, AH927, mint & date in obverse center; the date is clearly 927 and not 912, as the so-called "1" between "9" and "2" is actually the alif of the mint name herât; moreover, Herat was not under Safavid control until AH916, VF, RRR. The style is similar to the half shahi of the third silver standard of the East, type A-2585F, known dated AH927-928 from several mints." Herat is now in Afghanistan.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 2.32 g.
Catalog reference: A-2585G.
