Savoy 1677 1/2 doppia Fr-1091
This specimen was lot 2675 in Sincona sale 87 (Zurich, October 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIEN Savoyen, Vittorio Amedeo II., unter Vormundschaft seiner Mutter Maria Giovanna Battista, 1675-1680. 1/2 Doppia 1677, Torino. Sehr selten. Gutes sehr schön. Winziger Randfehler. (Italy, duchy of Savoy, Victor Amadeus II, under the regency of his mother Maria Giovanna Battista, 1675-80, half doppia of 1677, Turin mint. Very rare, Good very fine, Tiny edge flaw.)"
This very rare type was struck 1676-77. The duchy of Savoy was a poverty-stricken state subject to frequent foreign invasion and its coinage is scanty.
