Honduras 1892 peso
This specimen was lot 21196 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONDURAS. Peso, 1892/0. Tegucigalpa Mint. PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield. Although not especially rare as a type or date, this is certainly a condition rarity for this appealing issue, lustrous overall with few surface marks and lavender tone punctuated by hues of gold." This specimen was also lot 20474 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $1,200. This type was issued in Honduras 1883-1903 and 1914 and usually comes poorly struck. It is much commoner than the earlier KM 51, issued 1881-83. Varieties, overdates, etc., abound. The peso was dropped in favor of the lempira in 1931. The SCWC lists no normal dates, only 1892/1 and 1892/0.
