Sincona sale 38, lot 1845

This specimen was lot 1845 in Sincona sale 38 (Zurich, May 2017), where it sold for 275 CHF (about US$330 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916 Dukat 1891. Wien. Fast FDC. (empire of Austria, Francis Joseph, 1848-1916, ducat of 1891, Vienna mint. About uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1872-1914 and is common. The SCWC notes that more were restruck after World War One but does not state which dates. No mintmark appears on this type. Gold ducats were struck throughout Franz Josef's long reign and come in many types.

Recorded mintage: 325,000.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW, 19.8 mm diameter, this specimen 3.47 g.
