Jean Elsen sale 151, lot 972

This specimen was lot 972 in Jean Elsen sale 151 (Brussels, June 2022), where it sold for €2,600 (about US$3,248 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Philippe le Beau (1482-1506), AR double griffon, 1487, Malines. D/ Deux griffons affrontés, ten. entre eux un briquet et un fusil. Couronne en début de légende. R/ Ecu d'Autriche-Bourgogne posé sur une croix fleuronnée. Aigle en début de légende. Très rare Légère faiblesse de frappe. Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, Philip the Fair, 1482-1506, double griffin of 1487, Malines mint. Obverse: two griffins facing, between them a firesteel and a fuse, a crown at the beginning of the legend. Obverse: arms of Austria-Burgundy over a floriate cross, eagle at the beginning of the legend. Very rare, slightly weakly struck, Very Fine.)"
