Bulgaria 1882 lev

Stack's Bowers 2014 ANA sale, lot 30323

Bulgaria fought a protracted war against the Ottomans, culminating in liberation from Turkish rule in 1878. The new Bulgarian state was quite weak, however, and new conflicts drew it into the Balkan Wars of 1912-1913, along with Serbia and Greece, once again against the Ottomans in Turkey. This specimen was lot 30323 in Stack's Bowers ANA auction (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $1,233.75. The catalog description^[1] noted, "BULGARIA. Lev, 1882. PCGS MS-64 Secure Holder. From the Demarete Collection." This one-year type was struck for Bulgaria and is common.
