Peru 1831-Cuz G real
This specimen was lot 2041 in Classical Numismatic Group's auction of the Richard Lissner collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $266.20. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Republic. 1821-present. AR Real. Cuzco mint. Dated 1831 CU(ZCO) G. In NGC encapsulation graded UNC DETAILS. Coin ihas been dipped at one time. Still quite nice, the hairlines are faint. Very rare type and no other Cuzco real has been graded. The photo specimen in KM is about VF. Purchased from Lou Hudson, October 1980." The specimen shown is a real struck at the Cuzco mint in 1829-31, while the republic was still intact. In this year the mint name was written with some of the letters overlapping. The Cuzco mint operated intermittently through its history but was busiest in the 1820's and 1830's.
