Sincona sale 80, lot 2695

This specimen was lot 2695 in Sincona sale 80 (Zurich, October 2022), where it sold for 90 CHF (about US$108 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY | Naples / Sicily, Carlo II. di Spagna, 1665-1700. 8 Grana 1688, Napoli. Extremely fine. Minor adjustment marks." This type was struck 1688-90 and is fairly scarce; the carlino (ten grana, KM 111) appears more often. Charles II was the last Spanish Hapsburg; after his death, Naples passed to the Austrians, only to be reconquered by the Spanish Bourbons in the 1730's.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 2.00 g, silver, 20 mm diameter. This specimen is 2.00 g.

Catalog reference: KM 112, MIR 304. Mont. 60 (R).
