This specimen was lot 3461 in Goldberg sale 62 (Beverly Hills, February 2010), where it sold for $9,775. The catalog description[1] noted,
"Costa Rica. 4 Escudos, 1835-CR-F. Radiant sun face over row of volcanos. Reverse: Tree on foliate ground, value on either side. Rare. NGC graded AU-55."
This type, listed by the SCWC under the Central American Republic, was minted in Costa Rica 1828-37 and in Guatemala 1824-25 (KM 8). All are rare and expensive.
