New Zealand did not receive her own coinage until 1933, British coins being used heretofore. Issue of pennies and half pennies did not begin until 1940. Threepences were struck for Elizabeth II 1953-65. The design was modified slightly in 1956 to make the shoulder fold of her dress more prominent.
Recorded mintage: 4,000,000 plus 7,000 proofs.
Specification: 1.41 g, copper-nickel, 16.3 mm diameter.
