This specimen was lot 13145 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $6,462. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Prussia. 5 Mark, 1874-A. PCGS PROOF-65." This type was issued 1874-76 from Berlin (shown here), Hannover and Frankfurt ("C") but is scarce. The next silver five mark was issued in 1888 (see Dav-787).
Recorded mintage: 838,346 plus a few proofs.
Specification: 27.77 g, 0.900 fine silver, 38 mm diameter.
