Prussia 1725-IGN ducat Fr-2358
This specimen was lot 1464 in Jean Elsen sale 150 (Brussels, March 2022), where it sold for €1,500 (about US$1,989 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, PRUSSE, Royaume, Friedrich Wilhelm Ier (1713-1740), dit "le roi-sergent", AV ducat, 1725IGN, Berlin. D/ B. cuir. à d. R/ Ecu ovale couronné. Rare Flan ondulé. Très Beau. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William I, 1713-40, the "sergeant king", gold ducat of 1725, Berlin mint. Obverse: armored bust right; reverse: crowned oval arms. Rare, wavy flan, Very Fine.)"
This type was struck in Berlin 1719-25 along with Fr-2359. The Konigsberg mint struck a third type (Fr-2348). Issues of ducats in Prussia, never prolific, dwindled after the introduction of the frederick d'or in the 1740's.
