Sedwick sale 11, lot 1003

The specimen shown was lot 1003 in Sedwick sale 11 (Winter Park, FL, April 2011), where it sold for $4,600.

The catalog description[1] noted,

"Bogotá, Colombia, bust 1 real, 1776JJ, popular date, rare. Bold strike, nicely toned VF, no problems. For references, an AVF sold in our Auction #8 for $1,100 + buyer's fee (lot 1828). Jorge Ortiz Murias collection of Colombian colonial minors."

The SCWC lists seven dates for Nuevo Reino between 1772-84, all scarce.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.903 fine silver, .098 troy oz ASW, this specimen 3.1 grams.
